Vanderburgh County REACT has a communications station assigned to them at the Evansville Emergency Management Agency's Comm Center. On the right is a photo of the current Team president, George Lynn (Unit 16) as he shows us where the station is located inside the American Red Cross building, with a map of the Evansville area on the wall behind him. Click on the photo for a larger view. Vanderburgh County REACT operates both GMRS and CB radios from this comm center. Extra hand held GMRS radios are always ready for distribution during an emergency or for a planned public safety event. The local Amateur Radio Club, Tri-State Amateur Radio Society (W9OG) operates other radios in the same room covering the Amateur band, both local 2 meters / 440mhz and HF communications. |

| On the left honorary team member Lee Besing (now in Texas) visited a Team meeting. Not all members were present for the photo, and two insisted on being "behind the camera" so to speak. Vanderburgh County REACT provides many volunteer communication and other services to our community, and has been doing so ever since the early 1960's. We are one of the first REACT International Teams to be formed and hold the charter number of C-296. We are an active part of the Indiana State REACT Council, with our Team President currently serving also as Council President for 2003. We provide trained volunteer radio operators to supervise run-a-thons, bike-a-thons, parades and other charity or public events. We are on stand-by for call-out by local law enforcement, the local chapter of the American Red Cross or by the local Emergency Managment Agency.

We have a trailer capable of serving hot food and drinks prepared at the scene of almost any emergency, approved by the local health department. Our 25k diesel generator is on a trailer able to be towed to the scene, and be ran continuously for up to 24 hours without refilling the fuel, providing emergency electrical power where needed. Membership is open to any interested person with a clean, non-criminal background. A radio license is not required, but you must have access to a radio on one of the services used by the Team. To find out more about our Team, how to join, or how to ask us for help during your event, please use the contact info listed below. |
